Aug 15 at 13:02 | comment | added | galacticninja | @Luciano Based on our current policy and community consensus, I believe your question should be undeleted and reopened.
Aug 15 at 12:44 | comment | added | Luciano | My very first ID question in the site with an accepted answer was closed and deleted as OT. Will it be brought back?
Aug 7 at 2:12 | comment | added | galacticninja | @iandotkelly Can you also update our site tour to remove references to the ID ban?
Aug 6 at 20:47 | comment | added | Skooba - Stands Against AI | @iandotkelly would it be beneficial to add a new post, or add onto a post all the steps that have been and/or will be taken in the process to allow ID Questions? It looks like the process has started but I cannot tell if it is complete and/or what that time frame may look like.
Aug 4 at 6:52 | comment | added | galacticninja | @iandotkelly Thanks! Regarding the blacklisted tags, I believe only CMs can blacklist and unblacklist them.
Aug 4 at 4:53 | comment | added | iandotkelly Mod | I've removed the close reason, edited the tag wikis, removed IDQ from the off topic list. Unfortunately I don't know how the tag filters work - it may need a member of staff to do that, I can't find any relevant tool in the bewildering different places that mod tools exist.
Aug 3 at 21:09 | comment | added | BCdotWEB | If ID questions are allowed, then allow the ID tags first and foremost. I do not want to be confronted with ID questions and right now this is unavoidable because you cannot use the ID tags, and the filters use the tags to avoid certain questions.
Aug 3 at 19:49 | comment | added | iandotkelly Mod | I agree with @Valorum entirely on the point that it is the role of the moderators to enforce the policy defined by the community, not the other way around. I have not enjoyed the tenor of the conversation over IDQ but I have no axe to grind with respect to enforcing the changed policy.
Aug 3 at 19:42 | comment | added | iandotkelly Mod | I personally feel that the community position is that we are re-allowing IDQ and that there is some remaining discussion around guidance / community standards. I've not discussed with other moderators yet, but in the meantime (a) I'm not going to close IDQ, (b) unless it is objectively terrible quality I'm going to re-open IDQ that is closed and I believe that shortly we should update site guidance.
Aug 3 at 17:23 | comment | added | Paulie_D | I'm certainly avoiding, wherever possible, DV or CV ID questions as of now because the situation is fluid. I also not enforcing any standards or even suggesting doing so. I'm just seeking clarity on what the official policy and procedure should be as the site guidance and tags are not yet updated and the community is sending confusing messages to askers when we "officially" don't support IDQ but we still accept them. As I said, even though I think we shouldn't accept IDQ, I'm not fighting anyone on this... just looking for some clarity.
Aug 3 at 17:14 | comment | added | Valorum | @Paulie_D - And, as I've repeatedly stated, we don't need a moderator to say they're on topic. The community voted that they're on topic and it's now down to the moderators to enforce the will of the community (or quit), not the other way around.
Aug 3 at 17:12 | comment | added | Valorum | @Paulie_D - We seem to be in a sort of horrifying limbo state where those who're opposed to ID questions are trying to fight a weird rearguard action to make them as hard as possible to ask, downvoting and closing them and pretending that we didn't overwhelmingly vote to make them on-topic by a margin of nearly 3:1
Aug 3 at 14:18 | comment | added | Paulie_D | I'm drafting a "Tips for ID questions" based on SF&F's list and Skooba's comments on it and may post that later this weekend once I've sanded down the rough spots.
Aug 3 at 14:16 | comment | added | Paulie_D | @iandotkelly I agree but I don't want to getting into yelling matches in comments with pro-IDQ users who insist that these are now on-topic when, again, AFAIK, they are not. I'm content that the "consensus" has now changed the zeitgeist and we're back where we were (democracy, such as it was, in action) but there is, to my perception, a feeling amongst the "winners" that this is a "done deal" and, if there is discussion going on, that is simply not the case. I'm not looking to start a fight, just get clarity.
Aug 3 at 13:48 | comment | added | iandotkelly Mod | @Paulie_D I feel that what you describe isn't really tenable. Personally I believe the most understandable position is to make make ID questions on-topic (in the help center etc), but NapoleonWilson is encouraging us to spend some time setting standards.
Aug 3 at 13:37 | comment | added | Paulie_D | @NapoleonWilson I'm still unclear on what the official policy is. If I understand correctly, IDQ are still off-topic but in a limbo state of being acceptable? So users are free to VTC? At present I'm not taking any radical action on IDQ but waiting to see things shake out and just voting on quality issues rather than topicness but there are some members who are insisting that IDQ are on-topic but AFAIK that has not yet been implemented.
Jul 30 at 15:05 | comment | added | Valorum | @BCdotWEB - Why ever not? Those seem like perfectly legitimate ID style questions...
Jul 30 at 14:22 | comment | added | Napoleon Wilson Mod | @BCdotWEB Maybe that's one of these things that should have been discussed at some point... ;-)
Jul 30 at 12:24 | comment | added | BCdotWEB | ID questions are only going to be about identifying a movie or TV show, correct? Not about identifying actors from photos etc.? Or not even identifying movies/TV shows from photos, correct?

Jul 25 at 23:15 | comment | added | Napoleon Wilson Mod | People wanted a clear statement from the moderators and a path forward. That's why we decided to start this more focussed discussion.
Jul 25 at 22:59 | comment | added | Todd Wilcox | Why is this question separate from the other one on the same topic?
