The header background image contains the covers or famous scenes from 17 TV series and movies. Here is the background shown with the original (or similar) beneath. Star Wars (A New Hope) Batman Gone with the Wind Metropolis Breaking Bad Citizen Kane Dr. Who Forest Gump Twin Peaks The Lion King Godfather 2 North by Northwest Sharknado The Shining ...

Well, first of all, Thank you very much for making this possible and driving graduation forward! The overall design idea seems very good to me. As a huge fan of orange, I personally love the general color scheme. The Saul Bass idea is pretty good since I am personally more in favourite of rather minimalistic/streamlined and less "playful" designs. Those ...

They're the hieroglyphs from the countdown timer on Lost. You can read more about them here (specifically, these are our 404 page symbols because in Lost, they basically mean system failure).

This is being fixed now. Stand by. And, done!

Regarding the upvote and downvote buttons, could they be thumbs up and thumbs down icons? I rather like the idea, stemming from the days of At The Movies, where Siskel and Ebert started their notorious review process of giving a movie either a thumbs up or down. It's iconic enough to have even been used in movie adverts. "Siskel and Ebert gave it two thumbs ...

Okay, first of all, let's look at the current iteration and its problems: It's too dark. It deviates significantly from our site's signature bright orange-red as devised in the original design concept (), making it look a little more drab altogether. There are two main reasons for that. First, they actually made the site logo part of the film strip frame, ...

This Community Wiki answer is for everyone to add his possible suggestions for other cool little image snapshots of famous movies and TV-shows in addition to the ones already presented in the question. As a big fan of James Bond, he might also deserve a presence there, being quite an iconic part of cinema for the last 50 years. Maybe a snapshot of the ...

While we're at the task of cleaning up the identify tags (as much as possible) it might be worth also trying to improve identify-this-actor. It's not nearly the crisis that identify-this-movie is, but as you mentioned, there's no harm in improving the tag guidance. In particular, bad actor-ID questions tend to be of the form "here's a screen cap, who is ...

Movie reel is so so so tiny that it's difficult to even understand what is there, compared to before when it used to be the main part of the site design: Older design: Newer design: Now it's stressful to identify what is even there and also most movie reel slots are lost now, they used to be 17 of them and now 9. Even there is space to have all 17 there ...

I was quite confident that our site wouldn't be hit too much by the untheming process, primarily because our old top-bar image already fit perfectly into the new top-bar. But...apparently that was just wishful thinking. Given that the new top-bar would perfectly take our existing film strip, the current miniature image crammed into the right corner seems......

Are we going to lose colours from our colour scheme too? Movies & TV colour scheme: But we are losing all the blue. Blue footer is removed and help page sidebar lost it's unique colour sceheme and now it's generic yellow: Old: New:

The vote buttons seem to have been recoloured from their intial cyan-blue colour (left) to the site's red-orange (right): This removes a little bit of variation from the colour scheme and seems to directly contradict the design for the site's colour scheme as originally conceived. I know the buttons can't have a custom shape anymore (and they really ...

No, please don't do that! I was all for uncapping usernames, since they are prone to each and every user's personal spelling preferences and styles. But those general headings are not to be uncapped. Afterall I wasn't too satisfied with the fact that uncapping the usernames came with uncapping all the other captions, like "Top Questions" and the like. The ...

It is so nice to see the design work you have done, it looks great - thank you! Like many I suspect we won't want to emphasize the Identify-This questions of the site - they are viewed as a necessary evil by many (but not by all), but like @NapoleanWilson comments, the Saul Bass theme is a very positive outcome from that input. The illustrations are spot-...

I think it should be enhanced a bit to something like: Don't forget to include the following in your question: The original language of the film (English, French, Spanish, etc.) The country of origin The approximate year or a concise range of years of release. Remember: you can edit your own questions to add any additional details ...

Thanks for reporting. Fix is waiting in repo and should be live in couple hours.

32 upvote to a meta question, as i always expected graduation is always a hot topic. Anyways with the design, i will want to represent my views in two-part (Inspired with MattD's suggestion:- Thumbs Up: This little ID posters (Came by the idea of representing evil ID's) but the outcome is great. They are just repeating, better add more. Oscars, this evil ...

No. The all caps on the M&TV site makes sense, as the logo is in all caps. The navigation is not specific to the site you're on, it's uniform to the Stack Exchange network's overall styling. Making M&TV all caps in that dropdown menu would cause it to look out of place with the rest of the items in the menu. To make this clear: From a design ...

Thanks, fixed now. The movies.se theme has extra styling for buttons in the bottom area, and those extra styles were incorrectly applied here as well.

It's a spilled popcorn container... It's similar to the one in our main logo at the top the page

Wow, you've got good eyes. Anyway, the bug is because the styles for badge icons on those pages are leaking into the top bar. Here's a simple CSS rule to fix it: .top-bar .my-profile .-badges .badge1, .top-bar .my-profile .-badges .badge2, .top-bar .my-profile .-badges .badge3 { margin: 0; } (I copied that selector from an existing CSS rule that sets ...

To not only complain about all the things but contribute to an actual solution of the problems, I made a few small changes to the base image that might already improve it to a large degree. I would allow and encourage the actual SE designers to use them if they deem them appropriate and time issues don't allow for a redesign of the entire ad. First of all, ...

It will eventually fall out of cache and pull a new icon. We cache things like this heavily to ensure we don't abuse your data plan.

Coincidentally, I work in website accessibility - though I'm a product developer not an accessibility expert. The color contrast here (between #777 and #fff) is 4.48:1 This would not meet recommendations when measured against the most common accessibility standard, but only just. WCAG AA suggests a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for small text. I used ...

status-completed Mobile site top bar is design-less: Just a shouting plain logo with bright orange/red and without moviereel. But some other site's are better in this context, like worldbuilding: This one is soothing to eye and have site design too. Update: it's been resolved I guess? But more disappointed :'(

bug status-completed The new ask button in the upper right corner of an individual question page seems to cause rather odd intra-word breaks in the question title, for example on this question:

Definitely a cache issue. I'll ask our devs to do a server side purge today.

Our HNQ ad base image has been updated and all the problems the question adressed seem to have been solved. It's more exciting, uses a matching color scheme and doesn't suffer from significant image compression issues anymore: There are still some issues with the font, which is a bit too bold and blurry, but at least has a better readable color now (even ...

Well, for something positive, it seems the design unification fixed this long-standing bug. So that's something.
