Upright Bassist. — Upright What? And What Bassist?
OK OK, I learned that “Bass” is also some kinda fish... But what I mean by “Bassist” is someone being able to create (sometimes very!) low sounds by singing, or, in my case, playing an instrument with thicker, or longer strings. To make its sound heard, either sheer acoustics is enough, like a resonator, or electronics is used, like a pickup transducer, e.g. using Piezo, magnetic induction (Hall effect, IIRC), or microphone (magnetic or condensor)—sometimes a combination of all this, e.g. an electric instrument with solid body and a Piezo below the bridge...
And “Upright” is either a moral position, i.e. standing up to your principles, defending them when felt necessary, or a physical position, meaning I use my legs to “stand” on the ground.
In combination with “Bass”, the Upright Bass is the name of a usually acoustic instrument standing on the floor, but with a much bigger body size than a Cello for instance, though the shape somewhat resembles it a lot, so I cannot blame people much for confusing it with this instrument, or using the much more common name “double bass”, that somehow degrades its musical function to just playing the same stuff, but an octave lower, to make the music sound fuller. Good and fine, but there's more to it than just that... (will be continued)
