Yes, this should definitely be done for various reasons: There is precedent for this on other SE sites, from Science Fiction & Fantasy, over Unix & Linux, to Gardening & Landscaping. We are a classic case of an "&-site" like the ones above in that our site name contains two different but related and equally well-served topics. The topic of ...

I say yes. I don't see any reason not to participate, it'll be fun.

I'm quite sure all these various places you list source their text from one and the same generic site description sentence (as also used for e.g. migration notices). However, this can only be changed by SE employees. But this little capitalization issue has indeed been a thorn in my eye for quite a while, too. I agree it should either be properly ...

My suggestion would be to drop the general meaning completely, since it's rubbish. In my opinion creating tags for each and every general topic a movie could be about is not a good idea. Therefore aliens should be used for the specific movie Aliens and nothing else. (I have to admit that I think to remember having already enforced this policy on my own ...

This is being fixed now. Stand by. And, done!

While we're at the task of cleaning up the identify tags (as much as possible) it might be worth also trying to improve identify-this-actor. It's not nearly the crisis that identify-this-movie is, but as you mentioned, there's no harm in improving the tag guidance. In particular, bad actor-ID questions tend to be of the form "here's a screen cap, who is ...

I think it should be enhanced a bit to something like: Don't forget to include the following in your question: The original language of the film (English, French, Spanish, etc.) The country of origin The approximate year or a concise range of years of release. Remember: you can edit your own questions to add any additional details ...

Adam added https://tv.stackexchange.com/ as an alias for https://movies.stackexchange.com/. I don't think there's much reason to add every synonym for those words, but it definitely makes sense to include TV since it's in the name of the site.

Thanks for reporting. Fix is waiting in repo and should be live in couple hours.

I kind of agree with you (and have cleaned up the title of a few just now) - but I also have doubts about the long term usefulness of such questions anyway. That said if everyone makes the effort to clarify the titles of these questions it cannot do any harm.

6

I agree with @MaryJoFinch. This question needs to come back to life. But that's what the new 'put on hold' status is for! The problem I think people have is that this is not a question with a single, definitive answer. But in cases like these, I think that is GOOD for this site. Why? Because it has the potential for a great answer. Truly great answers to ...

Questions like the one you pointed out should be flagged for moderator attention. We have had a few problems with this before and without any type of attribution (if the original site's policy is similar to SE) then it is plagiarism which is unacceptable to SE as a whole. As a general rule, it is ok to reference material for your own content. But that is ...

Video Embedding Enabled After reviewing your content and the moderation efforts to keep photos and such from causing problems with your content, we decided to activate video embedding on this site. I'm not anticipating any problems, but please keep the concerns (listed below) in mind. Video should be used for clarification or supplemental information; the ...

As noted by TylerShads, this was indeed disabled back in around December for this site, amongst others like Science Fiction & Fantasy. As with all sites that have this disabled, remember that this requires great diligence on the community to stay on top of tags. You have to make sure to watch out for typos, bad tags, and other things that usually fly ...

Merging those two is very good idea, they've always been a thorn in my eye. They seem to be synonyms for all intents and purposes. One could argue that cinematography is more about the action of filming and operating cameras, while camera is more specifically about the actual technological things. But I agree with iandotkelly's comment that "we're not a ...

Thanks, fixed now. The movies.se theme has extra styling for buttons in the bottom area, and those extra styles were incorrectly applied here as well.

6

After the community seems to deem this a good idea and noone expressed their reservations in actual answers, we went through with this suggestion and adapted the close-reason accordingly. Recommendation questions asking for movies/TV-shows or resources to locate or watch movie/TV content are off-topic. Feel free to ask for people's opinion in chat or take ...

This has finally reached the whole network and the new maximum tag length is 35 characters.

6

Well... better late than never, eh? The sidebar on the Ask Question page should have the correct capitalization now. I've also updated the audience description and you can verify it in the site switcher. The list of sites on stackexchange.com will catch up in a few days. Apologies for the long delay and thanks for the report!

We already have a Twitter bot (that is controlled by the system and none of the moderators) As far as a Facebook page, I'd have to talk to the higher ups about what would have to be done sbout that. Further updates pending

My suggestion is to drop "Distribution" entirely from the off-topic list and to improve the descriptions about locating, purchasing or playing content. For good measure, I'm suggesting we also add sports to the news and current affairs lines, as this is a big area of TV that we don't address in the list. My suggested list is below, additions or changes in ...

I have added tv and movie to the tags blacklist.

Wow, you've got good eyes. Anyway, the bug is because the styles for badge icons on those pages are leaking into the top bar. Here's a simple CSS rule to fix it: .top-bar .my-profile .-badges .badge1, .top-bar .my-profile .-badges .badge2, .top-bar .my-profile .-badges .badge3 { margin: 0; } (I copied that selector from an existing CSS rule that sets ...

As a result of further discussion and taking into consideration the bad question policies, this is now 30 days, not four weeks. The current way we go about deleting identify-this posts allows a large number of other posts which are low quality and not of much use to future visitors to slip through the net, here are some fine examples of questions I'm ...

5

To not only complain about all the things but contribute to an actual solution of the problems, I made a few small changes to the base image that might already improve it to a large degree. I would allow and encourage the actual SE designers to use them if they deem them appropriate and time issues don't allow for a redesign of the entire ad. First of all, ...

All sounds good; fixed in code - available after the next deploy (when the "rev" at the bottom of the screen is higher than "2016.3.23.3373")

Most ID questions do NOT have the level of detail we ask for.... about 2/3 that DON'T. Let's look at the guidance... Plot details of any scenes you remember Descriptions of any characters or locations Where you watched the movie or TV show When you watched the movie or TV show Any idea of how old it was Any idea of country of origin (if known) Whether it ...

This is fixed, but I feel like editing the body of the report to get it rebaked would be destroying something beautiful... so instead let's have a much more boring example embed here:

This is an artifact of the status of his accounts being changed from employee to normal user since he recently left SE. For more information on this you can see this Meta-SE Question Its been noted that this has happened on a few sites, I'm sure it will get resolved in due course.

I would agree - more information is better than less. To ease confusion however I've created a tag synonym too - from tarantino to quentin-tarantino.
